Discover an effective, evidence-based approach to trauma & PTSD therapy
What is EMDR?
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) merges an exploration of past traumas with the use of specific eye movements or body tapping to facilitate the healing of the brain from distressing memories.
With the use of EMDR, past traumas, and difficult experiences become insignificant and distant. Thanks to EMDR, you can minimize the influence the difficult past has on your functioning today.
When is EMDR helpful?
Although a lot of people correlate EMDR with trauma & PTSD treatment, this modality is more versatile and can be used to help clients struggling with:
Anxiety
EMDR can help you resolve underlying traumatic experiences that fuel your anxiety.
Depression
Depression oftentimes comes from past experiences, and EMDR can help you work through them.
Grief & loss
EMDR will help you process the pain of loss in a healthy way, thus allowing you to move forward.
Trauma/PTSD
EMDR is effective when it comes to helping clients who have experienced emotional, physical, or sexual trauma.
Low self-esteem
With EMDR, you can shift negative beliefs about yourself and build a healthier and balanced self-image.
Panic attacks
EMDR can reduce the emotional intensity of your fears, thus allowing the nervous system to respond more calmly.
EMDR for trauma therapy
EMDR is especially helpful with trauma therapy because of the way it works. Eye movement therapy targets the way your brain processes traumatic memories. Specifically, EMDR uses tapping or eye movements and guided therapy to help you process painful experiences, making them less impactful on your emotional well-being.
It works through so-called bilateral stimulation, which is based on rhythmic movements, like eye movements, that engage both sides of your brain. This helps create a sense of distance from the painful memories, making them feel smaller and less overwhelming as you work through them.
EMDR works on both an emotional and neurological level, which helps you regain a sense of control, safety, and peace in your daily life today, even when the trauma you’ve experienced happened many years ago.
EMDR for trauma therapy
EMDR guides you through a gentle process of reprocessing traumatic memories so they lose their significance. With reduced emotional burden caused by past trauma, you’ll be able to enjoy life more fully and feel in control again.
EMDR for trauma therapy
This modality uses a guided process that involves tapping or eye movements. In a session, I will guide you to focus on a troubling memory while engaging in rhythmic eye movements or gentle tapping. This dual-attention process helps your brain reprocess the memory, thus gradually reducing its emotional intensity and creating space for healing.
